S Kota (Vizianagaram): The long-pending road widening works are undertaken in S Kota and completed it successfully on Saturday under the supervision of trainee collector Ketan Garg in Vizianagaram district. Under the programme, houses, huts and shops were removed.

The road is leading towards Punyagiri, a popular pilgrim centre in the district. With this initiative, the pilgrims can reach the temple by cars. As of now, the road is narrow and even the motorcycle riders are unable to ride on this road.

The road became narrow as some families living both sides of road encroached the road. Locals and pilgrims have been urging the government to remove the illegal houses and huts to widen the road. Based on the requests, the government served notices to shops and houses and removed the encroachments.

Over 20 shops and houses are completely removed and 30 were partially removed to widen the road for 500 metres. Trainee collector Ketan Garg has reached the spot by early morning and successfully completed the task without any agitations.

The displaced were distributed some essential commodities too. Later the road is handed over to gram panchayat officials for further development. Police, revenue and panchayat raj staff also participated in the drive.
