A free laparoscopic hernia camp was inaugurated at Harini Hospitals here on Saturday.

Vijayawada: A free laparoscopic hernia camp was inaugurated at Harini Hospitals here on Saturday. The camp will continue till August 31, said the hospital CEO and gastroenterologist N Tirumala Rao.

Speaking on the occasion Dr Tirumala Rao said that patients should take prior appointment for free consultation. A discount of 40 per cent will be given on blood tests and ultra sound tests, 20 per cent discount on surgeries.

Gastroenterologist Dr A Tinakar Reddy said that hernia, if neglected can lead to complications and at times would be fatal. If treated at the right time, hernia can be cured permanently, said Dr Reddy.

He said that hernia would develop in abdomen and groin region. In most of the cases, it is developed after surgery due to weak muscles. He said in males it is developed due to large prostrate gland, smoking in people with all age groups.

He said one should consult a doctor and get tested, if there is pain and swelling. "With laparoscopic surgery, we can prevent hernia from developing again," said the doctor. First 200 patients would get discount, he added.
