Srikakulam: The prestigious Disha Act is introduced by the YSRCP government in the state to curb crime against women, said Assembly Speaker Tammineni Sitaram.

Inaugurating the Disha police station here on Monday along with the Minister for Roads and Buildings Dharmana Krishna Das, the Speaker said that under the Disha Act, investigation should be started within seven days and trial be completed in 14 days. He added the accused will be convicted in 21 days from the date of occurrence of crime against women.

The Speaker said that Disha Act shows that the government was committed to women safety and their welfare.

"No state is enacted this kind of law in the nation. Chief Ministers of various states are started inquiring over our Disha Act as they too wants to introduce similar law regarding women safety in their states," the Speaker pointed out. Minister Dharmana Krishna Das said that Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy giving top priority for welfare and safety of women in the government schemes and programmes. Visakhapatnam range DIG L K V Ranga Rao, Collector J Nivas and SP R N Ammi Reddy and students of various colleges participated.
