Visakhapatnam: Governor of Andhra Pradesh Biswabhusan Harichandan on Sunday suggested the Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy (IIPE) faculty to focus on greenery and eco-friendly infrastructure development to reduce all forms of pollution.

Addressing the gathering at Dr Y V S Murty Auditorium on the occassion of the 4th year Foundation Day Celebrations of Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy, the Governor said that India was opting for alternative energy sources in order to reduce pollution.

Presenting the awards to meritorious students for their outstanding performance, he highlighted the significance of petroleum and hydrocarbons and stated, "I came to know that the research is being taken by the institute in the field of petroleum and hydrocarbons will be much useful to society in general and also for growth of economy of country in particular since it is mostly dependent on importing of petroleum products."

He advised the IIPE director to monitor the public sector oil companies to modify the syllabus of courses taught at the institute without compromising on research potentiality.

Elaborating on the development of campus, he mentioned, "I hope the institute with the efforts and assistance extended by the state and the Central government will shift to its new campus spread over 200 acres of land allotted at Vangali village, Sabbavaram mandal in one or two years."

Minister of Tourism M Srinivas Rao, District Collector V Vinay Chand and Police Commissioner Rajiv Kumar Meena participated in the programme. Later he participated in several programmes including planting of saplings.
