The government of Andhra Pradesh has given good news for students of public schools in Andhra Pradesh by issuing orders amending the Rajiv Gandhi University Knowledge and Technology (RGUKT) Act to add 0.4 points under deprivation for students studying in rural government schools for the admissions into IIITs.

The RGUKT has suggested that a decision be taken in the Governing Council on the backwardness index before the annual admissions. According to a committee set up under the chairmanship of Justice B. Seshashayana Reddy, only 23 per cent of rural students would get admissions if the three-year between 2017-19 backwardness index is not included

It has said that the public school students will get 93 per cent of the seats when deprivation points are added. The government has issued fresh orders in this regard, which will give priority to government school students in admissions to IIITs.
