Guntur : Assembly Speaker Tammineni Sitaram clarified that conducting local body elections is at the discretion of the State government. He said local body elections would be conducted after taking prevailing Covid-19 situation into consideration.

Speaking to media at Bramaramba Sametha Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple at Pedakakani on Monday, He said second wave of coronavirus is strong and remembered that MLA Ambati Rambabu was infected with Covid-19 for the second time and said that in order to conduct local body election, "we have to take the situation into consideration."

He offered puja to Lord Mallikarjuna Swamy for the wellbeing of the people of the State on the occasion of auspicious Karthika Somavaram.

Earlier, Sitaram and his wife visited the Bramaramba Sametha Mallikarjuna Swamy temple, where temple authorities welcomed them with Vedic hymns. The couple offered special puja to Lord Mallikarjuna Swamy. Vedic pandits blessed them and presented silk robes.

YSRCP Chief Whip in the State Legislative Council Ummareddy Venkateswarlu and MLA K Rosaiah were present.
