Several institutions are opting for solar power in East Godavari district due to environment factor and increased costs of power.

Kakinada: Several institutions are opting for solar power in East Godavari district due to environment factor and increased costs of power. Subsidy from MNRE (Ministry of New and Renewable Energy) through its nodal agency NREDCAP (New and Renewable Energy Development Corporation of AP) is also encouraging for opting this facility.

While 1 MW installations costs Rs 6 crore the NREDCAP extends 30 per cent subsidy on cost of installations with 4 years warranty on battery equipment. The Pollution Control Board (PCB) East Godavari is the first in the state to opt for solar power installation in the last one year period.

While the PCB opted for 50 KW solar installation, the Adi Kavi Nannaya University (AKNU) at Rajamahendravaram and the JNTU-Kakinada got solar installations of 100 KW and 75 KW respectively. Among others, KIMS (Konaseema Institute of Medical Sciences) at Amalapuram and the Aditya Instructions at Surampalem in Peddapuram mandal opted for 1MW solar installations in two phases in the form of 500 KW plus 500 KW.

Further, the East Godavari District Cooperative Central Bank (DCCB) opted for 50 KW, the BVR College of Engineering at Odalarevu 200 KW and the KITS Institute at Chebrolu 100 KW. There are several others who also opted for solar power installations in the district in the last one year.

East Godavari NREDCAP district manager (DM) G Satyanarayana said that after completion of the installations and verifying the same ,the subsidy will be released to the beneficiary.
