Kadapa: About 250 employees working in Rayalaseema Thermal Power Project (RTPP) were shifted to Sri Damodaram Sanjeevaiah Thermal Power Station (SDSTPS) at Krishnapatnam in Nellore district and this move indicates merger move of RTPP with National Thermal Power Project Corporation (NTPC).

According to sources, all the five units in RTPP are going to be closed in a phased manner. An official on condition of anonymity, said to The Hans India that RTPP has been facing the problems of coal shortage and other issues for the past few years.

It may be recalled that representatives of Joint Action Committee have represented Secretary (energy ) N Srikanth in December 2018 appealing him to stop NTPC's plans to acquire the RTPP and the alleged attempts to privatisation.

However the efforts made by JAC ended in vain as RTPP is going to be merged in NTPC. It was reportedly said that central government had directed the NTPC not to build new plants, About 3,000 families of employees are dependent on RTPP and its closure will affect their survival.

The RTPP a coal based Thermal power project located in Kallamalla village of Yerraguntla mandal was established in 2,800 acres of land and it had started commercial operations from 25-11-1994.

Presently it exists with five units with production capacity of 1650 MW, and 6th unit is in progress.
