Kadapa: Project relating to beautification of Buggavanka stream which is located in the heart of Kadapa city hits road blocks as it is entangled with hurdles like non-completion of underground drainage works. Leaders of various parties make use Buggavanka beautification issue as a promise during the electioneering and later they ignore it. According to officials, during the regime of Rajasekhar Reddy state government had sanctioned Rs 33.54 crore for beautification of Buggavanka project in 2006.

As part of this project, it was proposed to construct a 8,400 metres length protection wall, 6 high level bridges and 2 foot path bridges across the stream. A Hyderabad based company had obtained the tenders by quoting 20 per cent lesser than Rs 33.54 crore.

After doing some work, the company had dropped in the middle by saying that it was not profitable due to increase in raw material like cement, steel and sand. With the intervention of a leader, the cost of the project was increased to Rs 55 crore with revised estimations, and fresh tenders were called for the project in 2008.

Another company got the works by quoting 29 per cent excess amount against total cost of the project.

However that company also failed to complete the project as it had stopped the works after completing the protection wall up to 1,200 metres. In the meanwhile, some parts on the banks of the stream at Kagitalapenta and other places were encroached.

After YSR Congress party came to power in 2019 elections, once again the issue came to lime light as Chief Minister YS Jangan Mohan Reddy directed the officials to take up beautification of Buggavanka stream again and complete it.
