Seeds, fertilisers and pesticides will be tested at the YSR Agri Testing Labs (YATL) before they are supplied to farmers, says Deputy Chief Minister Amzath Basha

Kadapa: Deputy Chief Minister Amzath Basha stated that state government is committed for the development of agriculture and for the welfare of farmers. With the aim supplying quality seeds, fertilisers and pesticides to the farmers, government is planning to establish YSR Agri Testing Lab (YATL) in every constituency in the state, he said.

Speaking after laying foundation stone for establishment YATL at industrial estate in Kadapa city on Friday, the Deputy Chief Minister said that farmers are incurring huge losses due to utilisation of spurious fertilisers, seeds and pesticides.

As they do not have scientific knowledge, it is difficult for farmers to identify whether the fertilisers are genuine or fake. Traders cheat them by providing false information, he said.

Amzath Basha said that even as government has been taking stringent measures to prevent entry of spurious material to the market, the traders are adopting various methods to cheat farmers.

With a view to overcome the problem, Chief Minister proposed YATL in very constituency. Seeds, fertilisers and pesticides will be supplied to farmers only after they were tested in YATL, he said and urged the farmers to utilise the opportunity. AD agriculture Narasimha Reddy, and others were present.
