Visakhapatnam: In line with their annual initiative of providing respite to animals and birds during summer, Ken Foundation Society distributed 150 water bowls to the animal and bird lovers here on Sunday. The six-year-old project saw the representatives of society giving away close to 950 water bowls to residents of various neighbourhoods in Visakhapatnam.

"We have been offering water bowls since 2012 to wildlife enthusiasts. So far, about 800 such bowls were given away. This year, another 150 are added to the list," said P Santosh, founder of the Ken Foundation Society.

According to the team of organisation, distribution of green-tinted cement water bowls is a step towards offering a sustainable solution to provide water to stray animals and birds in hot weather.

Keeping the soaring temperature in view, the society encouraged people to place cement water bowls near balconies, terrace or the areas where the animals and birds are spotted often.

"Since the winged creatures and animals find it difficult to locate natural water resources this season, the initiative will help quench their thirst to the extent possible," said S Geeta Narayan, society vice-president at the free distribution drive held at CMR Central on Sunday. Those who would like to collect free water bowls from the group can contact the society by dialing 9885974949 and 9885674949.
