Kurnool: As many as 21 staff members of Mother and Child Health (MCH) Care centre at Adoni are infected with coronavirus on a single day. As a result, the services at the centre except emergency are suspended. Adoni has become a hot bed for corona virus.

On Thursday 41 positive cases were reported in Kurnool district. Of them, 35 have been reported in Adoni Municipality and the other six are from rural areas.

Adoni municipality has a population of nearly 2 lakhs. it has 42 wards with 43,000 households. Earlier, Kurnool and Nandyal were competing with each other in registering positive cases and there were less number of cases in Adono. In recent times, when the cases are declining in Nandyal and Kurnool divisions, they are increasing rapidly in Adoni.

Expressing concern over the rapid increase in positive cases, the Revenue Division Officer (RDO), Bala Ganesh convened an emergency meeting with the officials of all departments. In the meeting they have decided to implement complete lockdown in the town to prevent the spread of corona virus.

Adoni has the main railway line that connects Mumbai and other parts on the northern side and Chennai, Bangalore and several other parts in Southern parts of the country. Several people from Kurnool take trains to migrate Mumbai and other parts in the country.

The hospitals district coordinator, Dr Ch Sireesha speaking to The Hans India has said that 20 staff that includes nurses and technicians were infected with the virus. Almost all services are being attended and most of them are deliveries. The MCH is a fifty bedded centre with 66 staff that includes 10 doctors and 33 nursing staff. Others are technicians, sweepers and watchman. Of the 50 bedded hospital 15 beds are allocated for Pediatric and the remaining 35 for gynaec, said Dr Ch Sireesha.
