Kurnool: There was overwhelming response from the people to the Janata curfew all over the district on Sunday, as per the call given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The busy streets and roads wore deserted look with people staying indoors since morning in support of Janata curfew.

RTC buses were all confined to bus depots. Autos and other transport vehicles were not plied. Commercial establishments, private hospitals (except medical shops and emergency services), hotels, lodges, religious places like temples, churches and mosques were also closed.

The famous shrines like Sri Bramaramba Mallikarjuna Swamy temple at Srisailam, Ugra Narasimha Swamy temple at Ahobilam, Nandeeshawra temple at Mahanandi, Uma Maheshwara temple at Yaganti, Guru Raghavendra Swamy temple at Mantralayam and other temples were closed for devotees.

Agricultural markets and Rythu bazaars also observed Janata curfew.

Railway stations at Kurnool, Dhone, Nandyal, Adoni and Mantralayam witnessed no trains and passengers on the platforms. Bus stations across the district were seen neatly sanitised. Big vehicles were seen stranded on the road side.

S Venkata Rathnam of Swamy Reddy Nagar in Kurnool said to The Hans India that he has never seen such an alarming situation in his fifty five years.



The District Collector, G Veera Pandiyan, Superintendent of Police, Fakkeerappa Kaginelli, Joint Collector, Patanshetty Ravi Subash and other district level officials visited various places in the town and inspected the situation. They also visited Kurnool Government General Hospital and gave suggestions to the doctors. Later they visited Rayalaseema University where an isolation ward with 500 beds is being set up.

The Collector addressing media persons, said that it is very happy to see people have voluntarily came forward and observed Janata curfew. It is happy to note that despite rapid spreading of the dreaded virus, not even a single positive case was registered in the district.
