A peasant of Pagidirai village in Thuggali mandal found the precious stone while tilting land. In the second incident, a shepherd of Bollivani Palle village in the same mandal also reportedly detected the colour stone while grazing sheep.

A diamond merchant stationed at Peravalli village said to have purchased the stones from the duo at much lesser price.

According to information, peasant's diamond was purchased at Rs 1.50 lakh and the shepherd was paid Rs 50,000 apart from three gram gold.

A source said the diamonds are worth more than Rs 5 to Rs 6 lakh. It is not uncommon for diamonds turning up from soil during rainy season.

Farmers and fortune hunters roam these parts in Pathikonda from June to November to test their luck. Even diamond merchants from Mumbai and other places fly to Pathikonda and camp till the end of season.

Pathikonda, Jonnagiri, Vajrakarur, Pagidirai, Peravalli and some other places in the district are famous for precious stones that show up after rains wash away several layers of the earth.
