Kurnool: District Collector, G Veera Pandiyan said that a pint of blood can give life to another and urged people to come forward to donate blood. It is a social responsibility of every citizen, he said.

On the occasion of World Blood Donors Day, Veera Pandiyan accompanied by officials of Aids prevention and control department released the wall poster that was captioned "Rakthadaanam-Pranadaanam" at Collector conference hall here on Sunday. Later, addressing on the occasion, Pandyan said several people are losing their lives due to non-availability of blood. ``People have fears in donating blood. They might be thinking that donating blood would harm them. There is a need to educate people and encourage them to donate blood,'' he stated.

He instructed the officials to arrange camps at village level and educate people. Paste the posters at all villages and encourage youths to come forward to donate blood.

The Collector later inspected the Pathology department in Government General Hospital and launched 3rd new VRDL lab. With the 3rd VRDL lab, the total number of labs has come to four. Apart from VRDL labs, covid tests are also being conducted at Nandyal, Adoni and Banaganapalli Government Hospital through true naut equipment.

The Collector said so far 64,500 covid tests have been conducted in the district. Kurnool district is in first place in conducting covid tests with 64,500 (29,600 through VRDL, 22,000 through true naut and 12,900 though klia). With the new VRDL lab covid tests could be done from 3,000 to 3,500 in a day, he said.

Veera Pandiyan appealed to the people to get corona tests at their nearest Primary Health Centres, government hospitals, area hospitals and urban health centres.
