Market committees :Women set to get 50% posts
The state government has decided to provide 50 per cent reservation to women in posts of chairpersons and members in agriculture marketing committees.
Vijayawada: The state government has decided to provide 50 per cent reservation to women in posts of chairpersons and members in agriculture marketing committees. According to sources, Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy had already given directions to officials concerned and important leaders in this regard.
The posts will be filled with women before the local body elections which are expected to be held in March. Nearly 110 marketing committees will be appointed with women leaders of YSRCP out of the total 220 marketing committees across the state.
Jagan Mohan Reddy promised 50 per cent of posts to women in nominated posts. As part of it, the state government has expedited plans in view of local body elections. The women of various sections like SCs, BCs, STs and minorities also will get the benefit under this plan.
Currently, there are 191 market committees functioning in 175 constituencies in the state.
Now the state government wants to increase the their number to 220. Likewise, the officials were directed by the government to make sure to provide one marketing committee for every Assembly constituency.
As per the plans, nearly 20 members will be appointed for each marketing committee from every constituency in the state. In total, more than 4,000 posts will be filled by March before the local body elections. As per the rules, the three officials, MLA, four traders and 12 local leaders can be appointed for each marketing committee.
Already the local leaders of ruling party have received information from party leadership on the appointments of marketing committees. The party leadership believes that the local leaders will work actively for the local body elections after filling the vacancies.
P Krishna Murthy, YSRCP Tadepalli mandal unit president said that Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy would fulfil all the promises without fail. He said that the filling of the marketing posts would be a boost to the rank and file of the party at grassroot
level in villages.
