Vijayawada: The city police rejected permission to the TDP to organise party chief N Chandrababu Naidu's protest at Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation Stadium here on November 14.

It may be noted that Naidu took a decision to participate in a 12-hour hunger strike on the sand shortage issue. Senior TDP leaders Devineni Uma, Kollu Ravindra and MLC B Arjunudu met the Police Commissioner seeking permission for staging protest at the IGMC Stadium.

They said that the stadium is a suitable venue while the security aspect is taken into consideration as Naidu is covered under Z plus category. But the police refused to give permission in this regard.

In this backdrop, the leaders of the TDP are searching for an alternative venue for the event. The TDP leaders have also proposed Dharna Chowk as venue which is in the heart of the city.

MLC and Krishna district TDP president B Arjunudu alleged that the police rejected his party's request in an undemocratic manner. He pointed out that Z plus category security is provided to Naidu but the police did not consider their plea. MLC P Ashok Babu and TDP senior leader Tumati Premnath opposed the decision of the State government to give utmost importance to English.

They recalled that when the previous TDP government tried to introduce English language partially in selected schools, the leaders of the YSR Congress criticised them. They wondered as to what the YSR Congress leaders would say now about the allegations they made against the TDP government.
