Ongole: The Prakasam district Collector Dr Pola Bhaskara ordered the officials to make arrangements to screen 16 years and above aged people for eye issues under the third round of YSR Kanti Velugu program. He conducted a review meeting with the medical and health department officials in the collectorate on Tuesday.

In the meeting, the collector said that the government is launching the third round of the YSR Kanti Velugu program from February 1. He explained that they have conducted eye tests for 438996 students in the schools in the district and identified that 33761 has issues with eyesight. In them, he said that the government provided spectacles to 11053 students in which 4123 are found to be required surgery to correct the sight. He said that the YSR Kanti Velugu scheme is introduced in the state to provide eye treatment to all poor and downtrodden people.

He explained that they are planning to conduct eye tests for selected 616686 people from 12 mandals in the 12 assembly constituencies in the district. He said that they are appointing 581 asha workers who would conduct primary tests in 479 village secretariats. He ordered to attach the 534 sub-health centres to village secretariats and design an action plan to appoint medical staff in the remaining 330 secretariats. The DMHO Dr Padmavathi, APVVP district coordinator Dr Usharani, DBCO Dr Sridevi Priya, RIMS superintendent Dr Sriramulu, program officer Dr Suresh and others also participated in the program.
