Ongole: An inmate of the district jail in Ongole, who is on remand is tested positive for Coronavirus. Alerted by the result, the district administration made arrangements for conducting COVID-19 tests for all inmates and staff in the district jail on Saturday.

A theft case is registered in Taluk Police Station of Ongole last month and the police arrested a 22-year-old man, native of Vijayawada, and sent to district jail for remand, following the orders of the court. A few days ago, the man started to suffer from fever and other symptoms of the Coronavirus and shifted him to the Government General Hospital for treatment, where the doctors conducted a test for COVID-19. On Friday evening, the doctors announced that the sample is positive for the VRDL test.

The district COVID-19 Nodal Officer Dr. John Richards confirmed the positive result of the remand prisoner. He said that they made arrangements for the collection of samples from all inmates and staff of the district jail on Saturday.
