Vijayawada: "Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is seen in most of the women, which can be treated with basic lifestyle changes and treatments.

PCOS is producing more of androgens which are male hormones," said the expert team of doctors Dr Sujatha Vellanki, Dr Pushpa and Dr Sirisha of Oasis Centre for Reproductive Medicine.

Speaking on the objective of awareness programme, Dr Sujatha said that it was to create awareness on PCOS in this generation adults.

She said that a lot of patients are not requiring any fertility treatments but simple modification in their lifestyle or nutrition can help them achieve their parenthood.

"Going forward, we will be conducting many more such awareness campaigns on generic issues. Polycystic ovary syndrome is responsible for approximately 25-30 per cent of infertility in women, said the doctor.

She said the symptoms of PCOS can vary from woman to woman and may include excessive weight gain, irregular or completely absent periods, ovarian cysts, excessive facial or body hair known as hirsutism, male pattern hair loss, obesity, acne, skin tags, high cholesterol levels, exhaustion or lack of mental alertness, depression, anxiety, decreased sex drive, excess male hormones and infertility.
