Vijayawada: Police department is a responsible department and the police are responding quickly to the grievances submitted during the Spandana programme, said DGP D Gautam Sawang in Mangalagiri on Saturday. He said a large number of people are coming forward to lodge complaints during Spandana and get their problems addressed.
Sawang addressed a media conference at the State police office on Saturday to mark the Police Martyrs Commemoration week observed from October 15 to 21. He said the police received 31,774 complaints from the people during the 13 Spandana programmes conducted so far (every Monday) and 31,119 complaints have been addressed, which is 98 per cent of complaints.
He said only 654 complaints were pending. Giving details of the complaints, Sawang said 25 per cent complaints were related to civil cases, 17 per cent related to bodily offences and 16 crimes against women.
He said women were not hesitating to come to the police and lodge complaints. He said it is a good sign that women were coming forward to lodge complaints and approaching police for justice. The DGP said people can daringly walk into any police station or the offices of the DSP, Superintendent of Police and Commissioner of Police etc and give complaints.
Referring to FIR, he said the police booked 7,442 FIR cases related to the complaints received in Spandana. "Generally women hesitate to go to the police station but the tendency is changing and more women are coming to police stations to get justice," he added.
Giving details of welfare schemes being implemented to the police personnel, he said more than 80 per cent police staff are getting weekly off and admitted that the Station House Officers were facing some difficulties in availing weekly off because, there is only one SHO for each station and there is no substitute.
Referring to Police Commemoration Week, he said awareness was created among more than 1.80 lakh children and students on road safety, student police cadet programme, citizen-centric services, community policing, modern scientific investigation techniques, drones, role of Shakti teams, clues team, dial 100, BD teams, weaponry and dog squads.
He said the police department conducted various types of competitions for students, blood donation camps and other service activities in 13 districts and would present prizes to the winners.
