Polling for 4 Rajya Sabha seats in Andhra Pradesh begins in assembly

The polling for the election of Rajya Sabha members has begun in Assembly Hall on Friday, June 19. Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy along with party MLAs will be exercising their right to vote in the polling to be held from 9 am to 4 pm. The results will be revealed at 5 pm. Prior to the election, the Election Returning Officer and Assembly Secretary P Balakrishnamacharya reviewed the arrangements. If all 175 MLAs in the Legislative Assembly exercise their franchise, each candidate will need 36 votes to be elected to the Rajya Sabha. If the number of members participating in the polling is reduced, the number of votes needed to win the election will be reduced. The current number is likely to help YSRCP to win all four seats.

State government Advisor Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy, MP Vijayasai Reddy and Former Minister Alapati Rajendra Prasad on behalf of YSRCP candidates were sitting in the polling booth. Pillai Subhash Chandra Bose, Mopidevi Venkataramana, Alla Ayodhya Ramiredy and Parimal Natwani are the members of YSRCP who were among those who are contesting while Varala Ramaiah is contesting from the TDP despite no right number of votes in the House.

Rajya Sabha polls, on the other hand, have begun in seven states across the country. Elections are being held for all 18 Rajya Sabha seats in the respective states. Elections are underway for one seat in Meghalaya, four in Gujarat, three in Madhya Pradesh, two in Jharkhand and one in Manipur.
