Rajamahendravaram: CPI State secretary K Rama Krishna on Sunday said that the YSRCP government is suppressing human rights by using police force.

He was speaking to media persons at River Bay Resorts, where he was kept under house arrest. He said the arrest of CPI leaders to prevent Polavaram Project Parirakshana Yatra shows the government's fear that the lapses will come to limelightt.

A letter was sent to Irrigation Minister Anil Kumar Yadav on November19, asking him to accord permission to visit Polavaram Project who responded positively and the department also gave its nod. But, the police foiled the programme though there was permission. The state is passing through police rule under director-general of police Gowtham Sawang instead of democratic rule.

The CPI secretary further said, the party cannot be a mere spectator, if the government tries to create hurdles to the programme and at any cost the programme will be taken up, he said.

CPI wanted to visit the project area in the wake of government's decision to reduce the project height to 135 feet from 150 feet and BJP government's denial to bear the expenditure of relief and rehabilitation.

The people are eagerly waiting to see the completion of the project. But because of the BJP and YSRCP governments, it is getting delayed, which is the lifeline of the State, he said.
