Rajamahendravaram: Tourist footfall reduces significantly in EG

Rajamahendravaram: Coronavirus which is showing its impact on different sectors, also hit the toursim sector in East Godavari district.

Because of the massive publicity and government directions to prevent the spread of the deadly virus, the number of tourists visiting the district from across the state has gone down significantly.

Many tourist spots in the Agency area of the district wore a deserted look and the forest guest houses constructed under eco-tourism project are also lying vacant. In addition to this, many rooms in the famous Dindi resorts at Dindi village also remained vacant.

The house boats in River Vasista have been anchored due to lack of tourists and some rooms constructed by the department as part of temple tourism also vacant at various temples. In addition to this, the occupancy ratio in many hotels in the city as well as across East Godavari district has drastically reduced. Boat rides came to a halt in River Godavari.

According to an official of Tourism Development Corporation, the number of tourists has gone down by 70 per cent due to the outbreak of coronavirus.

The APTDC has also been taking several precautionary measures at its resorts in the district. Officials have been instructed at the tourism rest houses at Kakinada, Dindi and other places to take all necessary precautions, he added.
