Chittoor: APSRTC Chittoor region has incurred a loss of Rs 85.03 crore in the financial year (April 2018-February 2019).

The reasons attributed for RTC running in losses is operating Palle Velugu buses to villages on the instructions of the government, salary hike for employees, spiralling of diesel prices and private travels running in popular routes.

The Chittoor region's office is in Tirupati and 14 bus depots are under the region.

Highest loss in the region was incurred by Madanapalle-1 depot (Rs 10.2 crore) and the lowest loss by Tirupati depot (Rs 2.45 crore). Speaking to The Hans India here on Wednesday, Deputy Chief Traffic Manager C Ramu has admitted that all the deports are in losses.

To a question, Ramu has stated several measures have been initiated for motivating the employees and to improve seat occupancy ratio in RTC buses.

He expressed anguish over the majority parents of the students are interested to travel buses run by private travels. Ramu further said that there was a proposal to appoint business facilitators in all mandals for cargo services.

He mentioned that there was tremendous response from the devotees to visit Sabarimala and Melattur pilgrim centres by hiring the RTC buses.
