Visakhapatnam: An array of attractively designed rakhis, trinkets, sequin-clutch and handbags, edible idols, bound journals, accessories, kurtas and bed linen form a part of the annual exhibition hosted by Akhil Bharatiya Marwari Mahila Samiti at VUDA Children's Theatre that began on Friday.

The Samiti has been involved in a number of service-oriented activities for the past dozen years and the annual fair is one among the initiatives taken by it.The fair that has 35-40 stalls provided a platform for several budding and established entrepreneurs to exhibit their products under one roof.

"The avenue not only gives us a new exposure but also helps us understand the pulse of clients to cater to their needs," said Rachna Sharma, an entrepreneur, who has put up a counter at the venue.

Inaugurating the fair, VMRDA Chairman Dronamraju Srinivasa Rao appreciated the samiti's gesture for meeting the needs of patients through the sale proceeds and contributing their bit to society by organising various social activities that inspire others to follow suit.

Later, he handed over a cheque of Rs 25,000 to the differently-abled woman, a part of the sale proceeds being set aside for the donation. Samiti president Usha Gupta, secretary Sunitha Agarwal and treasurer Uma Daga said that a part of the proceeds derived from the exhibition will be donated to a couple of cancer patients and differently abled pregnant woman to meet their medical expenses.

Earlier, the association has installed a water purifier in municipal school, donated cash to cancer patients and provided financial assistance to the needy students for various training programmes. The fair will be open for visitors on Saturday from 10 am to 8 pm.
