Srikakulam: In the wake of rising temperatures and heat wave prevailed in the district, seasonal fevers are spreading in villages across several mandals in the district. Due to rising temperatures and suffocation, people are losing their strength and consuming unsafe water as all drinking water resources going dry.

In Nandigama, Palakonda, LN Peta and Ranastalam mandals, people are suffering from fevers in several villages. In Nandigama, Subbammapeta, JR Puram, Ranastalam, Uppuvalasa, Rawada, Nagarappalem, Pinnintipeta, Punnanapalem, Sancham, Kovvada, Allivalasa, Jeerupalem and several other villages, a large number of fever cases have been reported.

In the wake of non-availability of proper medical care, most patients are visiting RIMS hospital at Srikakulam and other private hospitals in district headquarters. Some patients are losing white cells and immunity power also. Poor sanitation and mosquitoes are primary reasons for immediate spread of fevers in the district.

By cashing the situation, private hospitals' doctors and laboratories owners are collecting huge amount in the name of medical tests. "We have spent more than Rs 3,000 each for fever so far for treatment in a private hospital at Srikakulam," said P Ramakrishna and K Veerraju patients from Ranastalam mandal.

"We have deployed our medical teams in villages and they are collecting blood samples from patients and also supplying medicines to those who are affected by the fevers," said district medical and health officer Dr M Chencheyya to The Hans India.
