The programmes offered by Sri Padmavati Mahila Visvavidyalayam (SPMVV) through distance learning mode have been gaining popularity with many women aspirants have been trying to get enrolled to become post-graduates.

Tirupati: The programmes offered by Sri Padmavati Mahila Visvavidyalayam (SPMVV) through distance learning mode have been gaining popularity with many women aspirants have been trying to get enrolled to become post-graduates.

In particular, most of the women may not be in a position to pursue their higher education for various social and economic reasons though they have strong desire to acquire higher degrees. Distance education provides such women an opportunity to get their academic desires fulfilled and the only Women's university in the two Telugu states has become an obvious choice for many women though several other universities are there offering several programmes.

Established in 2000, the Directorate of Distance Education of SPMVV has been currently offering eight programmes at post graduate level – MSc in Mathematics and Zoology, M Com, MA in Economics, English, Music, Telugu and Women's Studies; three PG diploma programmes in Family and Health Counselling, Pre-School Education and public Relations and a diploma programme in Music besides B Ed course.

Diploma in Music offers three specialisations – Sankeertana, Varnam and Annamayya Antarangam. The eigh The Directorate has already called for applications from interested students to get enrolled for the academic year 2019-20 and the last date for submitting their applications is August 16, said the Director of Distance Education Prof M Nirmala Jyothi. Speaking to The Hans India, she said that after the last date, applications will be scrutinised and admissions will be given to eligible candidates who have to pay the prescribed fee.

They will be given study material through the study centres which was designed in such a manner that it will provide the learners a general understanding of the subject matter. She added that admitted candidates have to attend contact programme classes at their respective study centres during Sundays or in vacation.

The duration of the contact programme classes varies from 10 to 30 days based on the programme they got admitted. The Directorate is having about 30 study centres for PG programmes in AP and Telangana whereas for BEd programme 10 study centres are there among which the candidates can choose the centre according to their convenience.

Prof Jyothi stated that there will be comprehensive evaluation process in the form of internal and external assessment. However, learners have to complete the course within five academic years from the year of joining the course and failing to do so they need to re-register by paying the stipulated fee.

"Our music programme through distance mode has been attracting many women irrespective of their age. Those who crossed 50 years are also showing interest in joining the course as they want to get an authentication in the form of a certificate in recognition of their talent", she explained.

The Directorate has been inviting applications from women candidates for admission into Additional Methodology Programme in BEd course for the year 2019-20 which was aimed at providing trained women candidates an opportunity for further professional development. Those who have completed BEd degree are eligible for Additional methodology programme.
