Coronavirus alert in Srikakulam

Srikakulam: The health administration in the district sounded coronavirus alert in the wake of identification of three suspected cases of covid-19 virus on Wednesday.

The three persons from two villages in Kanchili mandal in the district were admitted in government general hospital (GGH) attached to government medical college, RIMS in Srikakulam. The three were returned from Kuwait a few days ago. On presumption that they are being infected by the coronavirus, the GGH doctors and district medical health teams have been alerted. The throat swabs of these persons were collected by the GGH doctors under the supervision of district immunization officer (DIO)

Dr Bagadi Jagannadham and sent to Hyderabad for virology test.

If the result comes positive at Hyderabad, again the same samples will send to Pune laboratory for further tests. Again, if the result comes positive at Pune laboratory, then the government will declare them as coronavirus affected people. In the wake of three suspected cases, an isolation ward was arranged at GGH.

An ambulance also be arranged for the isolation ward of the GGH to bring the suspected patients to ward for tests and to collect throat swab samples. In last February, in total, 28 persons were returned from abroad to their native places across the district.

"We are tracking the details of all these 28 persons to trace the coronavirus symptoms," stated DIO Dr Bagadi Jagannadham to The Hans India.

He added frequent hand wash was essential to prevent spread of virus, better to avoid crowded places, wearing of masks and keep away from those who are suffering from cold and cough.
