Supreme Court denies stay order over AP High Court's verdict in SEC case

The Supreme Court has objected to issue stay order on the government of Andhra Pradesh's petition over High Court's verdict in State Election Commissioner's case. It is known fact that the government has filed a petition to stay challenging the ruling of the AP High Court. However, the court denied to issue stay order has issued notices to the defendants and ordered to give a written reply within two weeks. The three member bench headed by chief Justice Bobde made key comments during the hearing on the petition saying that the government does not have a good intention in issuing the ordinance.

Earlier, the High Court has ruled that Ramesh Kumar should continue as SEC who immediately took over as the SEC. However, Jagan government said that the appointment was invalid and had challenged the judgment approaching the Supreme Court. On the other hand, BJP and Congress leaders have filed a caveat petition on the SEC Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar's case in supreme court.

The government of Andhra Pradesh has brought an ordinance to terminate the current SEC after his unilateral decision to postpone the local body elections amid Coronavirus. CM Jagan Mohan Reddy who is irked with the decision has brought the ordinance. However, the High Court has cancelled the ordinance and associated GOs pertaining to appointment of new SEC Kanagraj.
