TDP AP chief Atchannaidu writest to Election Commissioner seeking ‘stringent steps’, including a CBI probe into the intimidating tactics of ruling party nominees against TDP contestants of local polls

Amaravati: TDP state President K Atchannaidu on Tuesday made a strong plea to the State Election Commission (SEC) to take stringent measures to prevent the ongoing attacks by the ruling YSRCP leaders on the opposition parties' candidates in the local body elections.

Atchannaidu wrote a letter to SEC N Ramesh Kumar, saying that the YSRCP candidates and their followers were resorting to intimidation tactics and attacks on the TDP nominees in Santhamaguluru mandal in Prakasam district. The ruling party is targeting all those who contested the local polls on behalf of the TDP.

Stating that the common people were being terrified with murder politics, Atchannaidu demanded that the CBI inquiry be launched into the ruling party attacks on the TDP activists. The YSRCP was indulging in undemocratic and unlawful activities all over the state, he said.

The TDP leader sought postponement of elections wherever violence and irregularities were reported. Security should be provided to the Opposition candidates with the Central forces. The SEC should begin online nominations in order to give a level playing field to all the candidates in a democratic manner.

Atchannaidu stressed the need for conducting the elections amid security provided by the Central forces since the YSRCP was resorting to widespread violence and attacks.
