Three-corner contest in Mummidivaram
Cheyyeru Assembly constituency has formed as Mummidivaram Assembly constituency after delimitation in the year 1978.
Rajamahendravaram: Cheyyeru Assembly constituency has formed as Mummidivaram Assembly constituency after delimitation in the year 1978. Elections were held for four times in 1955, 1962, 1967 and 1972 in Cheyyerru Assembly constituency and 11 times in Mummidivaram Assembly constituency in 1978, 1983, 1985, 1989, 1994, 1996, 1998, 1999, 2004, 2009 and 2014. Kapu and Kashatriya community leaders represented Cheyyeru Assembly constituency twice each in the elections held in 1955, 1962, 1967 and in 1972.
In 1955 election, Congress candidate N Ramabhadra Raju won on CPI candidate C Krishnamurthi and in 1962 election P Venkat Rao defeated independent candidate PVK Raju, in 1967 election, independent candidate CM Krishnam Raju defeated Congress candidate P Venkat Rao and in 1972 Election, Congress candidate P Venkat Rao defeated Independent candidate GV Rao.
After delimitation, in 1978 election in Mumidivaram Assembly constituency, Congress candidate MVS Prasad Rao defeated Janata party candidate B Appala Swamy, in 1983 election, TDP candidate VR Sakkubai defeated Congress candidate MSV Rao, in 1985 election, TDP candidate Pandu Krishna Murthi was elected against Congress candidate GK Vara Prasad, in 1989 and 1994 elections, Congress candidate B Subba Rao was elected
defeating Cong candidates P Krishna Murthi and M Anand Sagar. In 1996 by-election, TDP candidate GMC Balayogi was elected defeating G Surya Rao(Cong) and in 1998 by-election and in 1999 election, TDP candidate CH Vivekananda defeated P Viswaroop (Cong) and in 2004 elections, Cong candidate P Viswaroop was elected defeating TDP CH Seshu Kumari, in 2009 elections Congress candidate P Satish Kumar was elected and in 2014 election TDP candidate Datla Subba Raju was elected by defeating YSRCP candidate G Sai. Balayogi and Battina Subba Rao who were elected from constituency worked as ministers in TDP.
YSRCP candidate Ponnada Satish Kumar was elected as MLA on Cong in 2009 election based on his fishmermen votes. TDP candidate Datla Subba Rao also soliciting votes projecting development works taken up in his stint and JSP candidate Pitani Bala Krishna is promising to develop the constituency if he was voted to power.
