Tirupati: SVIMS cancer unit conducted a cancer screening camp at RASS headquarters here on Wednesday for the benefit of women employees working in RASS and also members of women SHGs.

Speaking on the occasion, RASS president G Muniratnam said that RASS took the initiative for early detection of cancer in women as part of its efforts to improve health status of women. Thanking SVIMS for organising cancer screening in RASS office, he said tests costing about Rs 8,000 were done free of cost to women in the medical camp for detection of cancer. As many as 150 women were examined in the cancer screening camp.

Earlier, speaking at a cancer awareness meeting, SVIMS Director-cum-Vice-Chancellor Dr B Vengamma said that in the mobile screening taken up by SVIMS through its `Pink Bus,' three types of cancer can be detected early in women. She said that the `Pink Bus' proving a boon to scores of women more so living in the interior villages for providing free tests for cancer detection. RASS general secretary Venkatratnam, project manager Nagarj and others were present.
