Tirupati: About 4,700 government schools in Chittoor district will be transformed into more vibrant institutions in the next three years. In the first phase, the works in 1,529 schools were taken up with Rs 397 crores estimates of which Rs 45 crore are already released by the government.

These works are in different stages and will be completed in the next two months after which the second phase works will be taken up. The state government has launched the scheme to provide the required infrastructure and basic amenities like toilets, water facility, compound walls. It will cover 15,715 schools in the state in the first phase. All the schools will be covered in three year-time with a budget of Rs 12,000 crores. Samagra Shiksha Additional project Coordinator P Venkata Ramana Reddy said that schools will be transformed into corporate schools by improving the facilities and they will get modern look.

They will have a nice building, good flooring, besides having safe drinking water, toilets, furniture, green boards in all classrooms and electrical facility. With attractive paintings they will attain a completely new look, he said. Toilets will be there separately for boys and girls. RO system will be set up at all schools to provide safe drinking water to 30 to 150 students.

He added that all the works are being carried out by headmasters, parents' committees and field engineers in which contractors will have no role. With this, corruption will not be there and quality can be ensured.

He along with Tirupati Deputy Education Officer C Vijayendra Rao have inspected the works being carried out at Padmavati Puram and Tiruchanoor ZP High schools on Tuesday. The project coordinator has made it clear that all the works under phase – I should be completed before July 31.
