Tirupati: As part of the national workshop on 'Socially Relevant Technical Education-Exploring Cooperation-oriented Actions' during December 6-7 held at National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research (NITTTR) Chennai organised by IIIT, Sri City, it has signed an MoU with Art of Living Foundation.

The MoU was exchanged on Saturday by Dr Rajendra Prasanth (Faculty –in charge Academics, IIIT) and Commodore Harsha (CEO, Art of Living Social Projects) in the presence of Art of Living founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and IIIT Sri City Director Prof G Kannabiran. This event was attended by heads of the institutions and professors across India.

Speaking on the occasion, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar believed that the MoU shall enable students to learn apt social and human values and to graduate as a holistic and socially responsible individual.

In his address earlier on 'Making youth socially responsible', he stressed that along with technical education it is important to inculcate social values in all students. Students should be enabled to appreciate the dignity of work and culture of this country.

Prof Kannabiran has said that the Institute has decided to align with The Art of Living to conduct formal courses to the students. Under the present MoU, The Art of Living shall conduct credited course on "Professional Skills Programme" to the BTech students of IIIT Sri City.

He added that while the education system mainly focuses on building technical prowess, there is an important need to educate the students and researchers about the social impact of such technological advancements. It is also important to sensitize faculty on the changing requirements of pivotal linkages and the present MoU will help in that direction.
