Tirupati: A 60-year old man from Srikalahasti suffering from Covid since May 13 has died at state Covid hospital in SVIMS in Tirupati on Monday night. This is the first Covid death in Chittoor district since March 24 when the first positive case was reported. The first positive case was also reported in Srikalahasti which is the hot spot in the district with 64 cases so far.

Since then till Tuesday 197 cases were reported out of which 89 are cured and discharged successfully leaving 107 active cases. As the deceased had no travel history, it was found that he got infected with the virus through his son who is a CA student studying at Guntur and reached his home town Srikalahasti on May 10. Ignoring his Covid-19 symptoms, the young man became a super spreader by closely moving with family members, relatives and friends spreading the disease.

All his family members have been admitted in the Covid hospital and undergoing treatment. As the deceased person is having other medical issues also, he was kept under intensive care and provided medical care.

According to DM&HO Dr M Penchalaiah, the man was suffering from co-morbid conditions including hypertension, diabetes and co-morbid conditions due to which his health condition got deteriorated on Monday evening and he was kept on ventilator.

Despite the best efforts by the doctors, the patient died, said the DM&HO.

Though the district has reported 208 cases so far including 11 Ajmer returnees and despite the Covid hospitals were equipped with sufficient ventilators, till now no patient is required to be kept on ventilator. But the first patient who needed ventilator was died as he is also having other health problems.

Meanwhile, of the five new cases reported on Tuesday, three were having Koyambedu market links and one person is the primary contact of CA student of Srikalahasti and the other case is the primary contact of a youth in Tirupati rural mandal who has been tested positive on Monday. Of these five cases four were women.
