Tirupati: Piler police on Sunday seized 600 tonnes of sand illegally dumped in the farm lands of Mallikarujuna in Peddgandlapalli in Piler mandal.

Police personnel led by Piler Rural Circle Inspector Muralikrishna conducted raids in various places in the mandal and noticed the illegal sand dump.

Preliminary enquiries revealed that Mallikarjuna taking advantage of lockdown brought 200 tractor load of sand from various rivulets in the mandal which he illegally stored in his farm land for sale on a higher price.

Circle Inspector said another150 tonnes of sand was also seized near the place and added that the accused was arrested and was sent to remand.

On the direction of Tahsildar Pulla Reddy, the 150 tonnes of sand was transported for the construction ward secretariats.
