Tirupati: The proposed strike by Class-IV and other non-gazetted employees working at Ruia Hospital here which was scheduled to commence on Monday was called off at the eleventh hour following the written assurance of Hospital Superintendent Dr B Sidda Naik.

The employees' associations issued a strike notice earlier to the Superintendent giving June 16 as deadline to fulfil their demands failing which they will go on strike from Monday.

The employees have demanded among other things to take immediate steps to clear their long pending promotions from class–IV to Lower Division Clerks (LDCs). Though there were vacancies for the last 10 years in the hospital, the authorities did not take any action to fill them.

When they were making all arrangements to start their agitation at the main entrance of Ruia Hospital from Monday, the Superintendent Dr Sidda Naik has given an assurance to them after midnight on Sunday that their demands will be met before 30 days and steps will be initiated in this direction. Following this, the employees have withdrawn their strike notice.

Later, the executive members of the AP NGOs Association led by its Tirupati wing President S Suresh Babu have met the Superintendent and discussed with him on the problems of employees. They said that they will mediate between the employees and the hospital administration to solve the pending issues.

Dr Naik assured them that he will take steps to resolve pending issues. NGO leaders Ravi Sankar Reddy, V Kiran, Prabhakar, Chandrakala and others were present during the discussions.
