Tirupati: Rains continued for second day in Chittoor district and good rains were reported in all mandals except a few on Wednesday. The pilgrim city of Tirupati which witnessed heavy rains on Tuesday experienced intermittent showers on Wednesday also.

District headquarters Chittoor town recorded highest rainfall of 112 mm (recorded at 8 am on Wednesday) followed by Nagari 102, Satyavedu and Vijayapuram 92, Pichatur 84, Palasamudram 80, Vedurukuppam, Karvetinagaram 71, Vadamalapet 70 and Tirupati Urban mandal 68, according to official sources.

The weather condition in the pilgrim city throughout the day remained cloudy. Pilgrims who came from various places were caught unawares and faced inconvenience.

However, there is no inundation of the main roads despite heavy rains for the last two days, thanks to the Municipal Corporation of Tirupati revamping the drains in the city.

MET department forecast indicates that the rains will continue due to low pressure in the sea in parts of Tamil Nadu, coastal Nellore and Chittoor district till November 1.

Meanwhile, official sources said that the district average actual rainfall received in October till Wednesday increased to 179.2 mm against the normal 162.7 registering 10 percent excess rainfall in this month.

The district also recorded excess rainfall during the South West monsoon (June to September) period which is 576 mm this year as against the normal 439 mm rainfall.

It may be noted here that the district recorded 41 percent deficit rainfall in 2018-2019 (June to May) with the district recording actual rainfall of 544.1 mm against normal 933.9 mm resulting in most of the mandals hit by drought due to continuous dry spell last year.

This year since June, 35 mandals recorded excess rainfall while 26 recorded normal rainfall and 5 mandals deficit rainfall. Kapilatheertham is in spate thanks to the incessant rains in Seshachalam forests on the upper reaches.

People gathered at the spot to witness the beauty of waterfall and take bath under the cascading waters.

With the advent of the holy Karthika month the footfall at the waterfalls increased manifold with devotees preferring to have a dip in the tank.
