Tirupati: COVID-19 scare has been worrying the people in the pilgrim city with four samples being sent to the VRDL lab at SVIMS on the same day. However, two of them were tested negative for the coronavirus.

The reports of another two who were admitted on Saturday are expected on Sunday. Two foreign nationals have been admitted into isolation ward meant for coronavirus cases at Ruia hospital in Tirupati on Friday night. Hospital Superintendent Dr NV Ramanaiah has said that one of the patients arrived here from Kuwait and another from the Netherlands.

Though they were only suspected cases and their health condition was stable, doctors kept them at isolation ward and provided treatment.

Their samples were sent to the lab at SVIMS, which is the nodal centre for diagnosis of COVID-19 and the results proved negative in both the cases and everyone heaved a sigh of relief. Meanwhile, on Saturday another two foreigners, one woman from Singapore and another male from Germany were admitted into the isolation ward with suspected symptoms of COVID-19. Their samples were sent to the lab and results are awaited. The superintendent made it clear that they were only suspected cases and their health condition was stable.

He however advised that anyone coming from foreign countries should undergo screening tests. "Also, nobody should enter into isolation ward. As cold and cough are infectious diseases, precautions are a must. While going in crowded places, handkerchiefs or masks should be used," Dr. Ramanaiah maintained.
