Anantapur: Residents of Anne Ferrer Colony in the city under the leadership of Aggadi Mallaiah, State general secretary of Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) party, have filed a case of physical attacks and harassment by the followers of Raptadu MLA Thopudurthi Prakash Reddy including one Vadde Pedanna, a rowdy sheeter, under the SC, ST Prevention of Atrocities Act here on Thursday.

The colony residents in their complaint to the District Superintendent of Police (SP) B Satya Yesu Babu accused the followers of Raptadu MLA of terrorising the residents and attacking them physically in order to bring the VCK leaders into subjection and to accept the YSRCP leadership in the colony.

The colony youth and VCK leaders also staged a dharna protesting the highhanded attitude of the YSRCP local leaders. Subsequently, a police picket was posted at the colony to prevent any untoward incidents. The VCK party has called for a demonstration at the Collectorate on August 5 to expose the continuing attacks on the SC and ST colonies and the hegemony of the MLA's followers.

Mallaiah told The Hans India that followers of the YSRCP MLA attacks on the SC and ST colonies were regrettable as Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy had been patronising the weaker sections of the society and doing a lot for their welfare.

He said that VCK, a Tamil Nadu origin political party having 2 MPs in the Parliament had been working for the welfare of SC and STs all over the country. The party in 2019 elections also had contested in two Assembly segments in the district.

It is also known for sponsoring the education of the downtrodden sections and even coaching scores of people for the civils and other high-profile jobs. Mallaiah says that one such product is the Kurnool Collector Veera Pandian. The VCK Trust he said is doing yeomen service to the poor and needy.
