Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Best Available Schools Managements Welfare Association (APBASM) president Dr Paruchuri Srinivasa Rao demanded that the state government immediately release Rs 150 crore pending funds to the schools.

Members of the APBASM staged a dharna in front of the Tribal Welfare office in Mogalrajpuram here on Thursday. Representatives of the APBASM from 13 districts of Andhra Pradesh participated in the dharna. They submitted a representation to the superintendent in the office on their demands.

Speaking on the occasion, Srinivasa Rao said 380 Best Available schools were formed during the regime of Dr YS Rajasekhar Reddy to impart English medium education to the SC/ST children in the state. He said the existence of these schools is under threat in the present YSRCP government. He said the school funds were not released for the 2018-19 and the school managements were struggling to run the schools. He said 40,000 children are studying in these schools in the state. He said most of these schools are run by small educational institutions and missionaries and they had been facing hardships unable to maintain the schools.

State association secretary PK Reddy, co-convener MB Sarma, treasurer CL Naidu and representatives GV Rao, Tulasi Prasad and other participated in the dharna. Holding placards they demanded that the government immediately respond and release the pending funds.
