Vijayawada: The Vijayawada cyber crime police station, which is helping many victims of cyber crimes, bagged the prestigious ISO 9001: 2015 certificate for the best quality management system. The cyber crime police station is the second station in Vijayawada city to secure the ISO certificate.

Earlier, Nunna police station bagged the ISO 9001 certificate about three months ago. Due to excessive use of smart phones these days, the cyber crimes are also increasing in Vijayawada and other parts of the state.

Cyber crime is one of the important areas where the State police is giving top priority and inaugurating the cyber stations in cities like Vijayawada, Vizag, Tirupati and other cities.

The police department is appointing adequate technical and non technical staff and providing advanced technology to nab the culprits and recover the lost money.

Cyber crime police are receiving complaints related to cheating cases, One Time Password cases (OTP), Without OTP, Whats App, Telegram, Instagram, Facebook, Phone SMS, Photo/video upload, ATM card theft and other cases like email.

The ISO: 2015 certificate was presented to Vijayawada cyber crime police station basing on the performance on enforcing laws, preventing cyber crimes, responding to emergency cases, creating awareness among the public on cyber crimes, providing support services within in the jurisdiction of Vijayawada police commissionerate and if necessary, beyond the jurisdiction.

The Vijayawada crime police made exceptional performance in recovery of money, which was collected by culprits by fraudulent manner. Culprits are cheating the gullible people and fraudulently drawing their money from their bank accounts with the help of OTPs. Cyber crime police are implementing the proactive role to create awareness to check cyber crimes.

In 2018, cheaters robbed Rs 2.33 crore from the people by following fraudulent acts like calling to their mobile numbers and asking for OTP numbers etc.

Cyber police have successfully freezed/refunded Rs 39.76 lakh with the percentage of 17.02 from the culprits and handed over to the victims. In 2019, the criminals fraudulently robbed (by indulging in cyber crimes) Rs 2.3 crore from the victims. Cyber crime police successfully recovered/freezed Rs 62.34 lakh from the culprits and handed over to the victims.

The recovery percentage increased to 27 in one year from 17 percent in 2018. In, 2020, by the first week of March, the culprits robbed Rs 19.86 lakh through cyber crimes from the victims. The police successfully recovered or frozen Rs 12.18 lakh with success of 61 percent.

Speaking to The Hans India here on Thursday, K Shivaji, Circle Inspector of Police, Cyber crime police, said that the Cyber crime police team was well equipped with advanced software technology and trained staff to detect the criminals and recover the robbed money. He said six sub-inspectors of police, constables, and cyber experts are always available to the general public at the Cyber station located adjacent to the office of the commissioner of police for the help.

He said the Cyber crime police station is the second police station in Vijayawada city to bag ISO 2009 certificate.

He said cyber crime police were creating awareness among the students and people by organizing workshops, distribution of pamphlets, posters and other material. He said cyber police visit various educational institutions and create awareness on how to check cyber crimes and keep their money safe in the banks.

Referring to women and girls issues, Shivaji said the police strictly maintain confidentiality of the victims and help them get justice.

He said the criminals are adopting innovative and modern technology to cheat the people and fraudulently transfer their money from the banks. He suggested the people not to reveal the OTP numbers to unknown people and always check their bank balance.

He said the victims must lodge complaint to the police as early as possible after detecting the cyber crime and it will help the police to check the bank transactions of the criminals.

Shivaji said the cyber police can immediately freeze the accounts of the criminals and help the victim to get back their money. He narrated the recent incidents in Vijayawada where the culprits had easily cheated the gullible people and robbed money with cyber crimes.



The officials, who presented the ISO 9001:2015 certificate have verified the track record of the Cyber crime police station on the maintenance of the records of police station, reaction of the people on the performance of the police station, safety and security of the records being maintained by the cyber station, technical information related to the procedures followed to recover the lost data, environmental friendly policies like use of e-paper for maintenance of records, receiving the people who come to the police station to lodge complaints, help desk activities and performance like speedy disposal of cases, recovery of lost money, arresting the culprits and creating awareness in the people on the cyber crimes and the modus operandi of culprits to cheat the people.

Commissioner of Police Dwaraka Tirumala Rao congratulated the Cyber crime police station on bagging the prestigious ISO 9001: 2015 certificate for its meritorious performance and good management system.
