Vijayawada city registers poor voter turnout
Surprisingly less than 68 per cent of polling was registered in the three Assembly constituencies in Vijayawada city against the average polling percentage of 81 per cent in Krishna district.
Vijayawada: Surprisingly less than 68 per cent of polling was registered in the three Assembly constituencies in Vijayawada city against the average polling percentage of 81 per cent in Krishna district. Urban voters showed less interest to cast their vote compared to their rural counterparts in the district.
According to trends, an average polling percentage of 81.10 was registered in Krishna district. It was only 65.78 per cent in Central constituency while 66.12 per cent in West constituency. Similarly, 67.55 per cent votes were polled in Vijayawada East constituency.
On the other hand, 89.64 polling per cent was recorded in Jaggaiahpet constituency which is the highest polling turnout in the district. The other constituencies like Tiruvuru registered 86.77 per cent, Nuzvid 86.83 per cent, 85.29 per cent in Gannavaram, 80.20 per cent in Gudiwada, 88.05 per cent in Kaikaluru, 86.92 per cent in Pedana, 79.39 per cent in Machilipatnam, 88.11 per cent Avanigadda, 87.44 per cent in Pamarru, 79.90 per cent in Penamaluru, 83.48 per cent in Mylavaram and 87.95 per cent in Nandigama in Krishna district.
The city voters turnout at the polling was poor against the expectations. The political pundits feel that the poll trend will touch 80 per cent in the city also. But the city voters did not utilise the vote like in other constituencies in the district.
