Vijayawada: Nayee Brahmana leaders representing various associations have requested the state government to consider the Nayee Brahmins working in various temples in the state as the employees of the Endowments department.

Annavarapu Brahmaiah, Malkapuram Kanaka Rao, Guntupalli Ramadasu, Eluri Srinivasa Rao, AGL Narayana, who represents the JAC of various barbers associations, met Civil Supplies Minister Kodali Venkateswara Rao, Nani, in Gudivada on Monday and submitted a representation requesting that the State government to consider their request and announce that these barbers as the Endowments department employees. They said tonsuring was considered very holy in the Hindu tradition and barbers should be treated as Endowments department employees.

They informed Kodali Nani that they submitted a representation to Endowments minister Velampalli Srinivas on June 22, 2020 and he assured to fulfil their request. The JAC leaders told Kodali Nani that the former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had humiliated the barbers when they requested to concede their demand.

They said the YSRCP leaders have assured them that their demand would be fulfilled if the YSRCP would form the government. Responding to their request, Kodali Nani said that he would take their demands to the notice of the Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy. He said 1,115 barbers are working in various temples.
