Disha app: The Disha app launched by the state government for the protection of women turned out to be an instant hit with more than 50,000 downloads from both Google Playstore and IOS Apps store in just four days.

Disha special officer Deepika, said in a statement on Thursday that the app has been given a rating of 4.9 out of 5 by users after watching the quick response to the app by the police. However, a large number of people are testing whether the app is working or not. From February 9 onwards, police have received at least 2,000 calls per day through Disha app.

The people are happy with the response of the police in the first case wherein a woman sent a complaint through the app and the accused was arrested within minutes. Merely shaking the mobile with the app for three times is enough to send the request for the police help.

Disha SoS centre received two complaints on February 12, one from Krishna district and other from Visakhapatnam. In both the instances, the victims were harassed by their husbands.

In another instance in West Godavari district, a girl lodged a complaint that her cousin was harassing her. He was immediately taken into custody. In another incident in East Godavari, a girl was given protection and the person was taken into custody for harassing her.

Most of the complaints the police were receiving were family disputes and the police are giving them counselling through experts, Disha special officer Deepika said.
