Vijayawada: CPI State secretary K Ramakrishna took strong objection to the comments made by BJP State president Kanna Lakshminarayana that there is religious conspiracy behind the decision taken by the State government to convert the Telugu medium government schools into English medium in the State from Class I to VI.

In a press release on Monday, Ramakrishna said that there was no relation between religion and education. Ramakrishna questioned Kanna as to why he got his sons educated in English medium. He further said it is wrong to give statements that the government is promoting English medium for religious conversions.

The CPI leader also objected to the personal remarks made by Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy against Jana Sena president Pawan Kalyan. He said the government's decision should be viewed as an administrative decision and personal remarks should not be made on any leader.

He demanded that the government should convene an all-party meeting to discuss the issue of converting government schools into English medium from the next academic year.

Earlier, BJP State president Kanna Lakshminarayana speaking to the media said the government must protect the Telugu language and Telugu culture. He said the BJP is not against English medium and Telugu medium.

He pointed out that the students will be given an option to choose the language and there is difference between the two words Amma and mummy, he commented.
