Vijayawada: Director General of Police D Gautam Sawang has warned that stern action will be taken against those operating mobile loan apps if they harass the customers who take loans.
Sawang said the AP police were already keeping a vigil on these apps and identified the loan apps which are operating from Delhi, Noida and Gurugram. Interacting with the media at the AP Special Police head office at Mangalagiri on Tuesday, the DGP said the people have to come forward to lodge complaints against the loan apps if they face harassment from the micro finance companies.
The DGP has issued the stern warning in view of the suicide committed by one person in Hyderabad due to the alleged harassment by loan app finance company and other cases reported there. The DGP said the loan apps were targeting mainly women customers and added that special drive will be conducted in the State to check the activities of these companies.
Referring to AP Special Police, the DGP said the State Special Police is similar to that of a para-military wing and it has been extending services to the people since pre-Independence times. He said the police department is presenting awards to the meritorious staff in Special Police to give encouragement.
He said the AP Special Police has network all over India and it has a record of doing service in North Eastern States also. Sawang said the AP Special Police are backbone for Octopus, Greyhounds and security wings of the police department in the State and it has been rendering invaluable service to the people of the State.
Referring to Spandana programme conducted every Monday by the police to receive complaints from the people, Sawang said women constitute 52 per cent of the complainants in the State. He said Disha app is very useful to the women and appealed to women to download the app to get quick response from the police.
