Visakhapatnam: The fifth edition of 'Vizag Going Pink,' the biggest women's exclusive run for cancer awareness, will be held in the city on December 8 at 5:30 am.

Organised as part of the 'India Going Pink' movement initiated by United Sister's Foundation, an NGO working for empowering women through fitness initiatives, the run aims at generating awareness about women's health and the importance of leading an active lifestyle to keep the disease at bay.

Briefing media here on Thursday, founder of Pinkathon Milind Soman said the run will begin at RK Beach and participants can take part in three categories such as 3-km, 5-km and 10-km. "India Going Pink' is a model run under Pinkathon's umbrella to take the awareness to all the other cities and towns in India and encourage women adopt healthier lifestyle and a positive attitude," he stated.

He exhorted people to make a collective effort to raise awareness on fitness and urged them to stick to healthy practices. He termed running as one of the workouts that surface on top 10 ways to help prevent diseases, including breast cancer. "Running not only promotes well-being but also helps boost immunity levels," he opined.

Business associate of Titan Company Limited Rana Uppalapati, among others took part in the media briefing.

A free health counselling session, medical screening for those above 45 years of age, a free mammogram and a medical check-up for women below 45 years will be facilitated during the event being supported by Sports Arena.
