Visakhapatnam: It's great news for all the Vizag natives… The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has been awarded 3-star rating in the Garbage Free Cities survey which is conducted by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA). The evaluation is done on the basis of cleanliness.

Initially, Vishakhapatnam was given only 1-star rating by the MoHUA in May, when the first phase results were announced. But later the GVMC officials found out that, they didn't upload the pics of Construction and Demolition (C&D) plant, which is being operated at Kapuluppada. Then after knowing their mistake, immediately GVMC officials approached the MoHUA officers and requested for the re-evaluation of the rating.

Considering the request of GVMC, the authorities of this survey have gone through the presentation and then awarded a three-star rating for the city.

Even cities like Vadodara, Ahmednagar, Pune, Ballarpur, Noida, and Gwalior also received a 3-star rating after re-approaching the MoHUA officials.

Announcing the same, Secretary MoHUA, Durga Shanker Mishra tweeted, "My heartiest congratulations to Visakhapatnam, Vadodara, Ahmednagar, Pune, Ballarpur, Noida, Gwalior, which have been upgraded in review as 3-Star #GarbageFreeCities. Their representation on recent certification has been scrutinised by 3rd Party & been found fit for a higher rating."

On this occasion, G. Srijana (GVMC Commissioner) has congratulated all the sanitation workers and staff for their smart and hard work and helping citizens to achieve this rating. She also stated that GVMC will aim for 5-star rating making the city free from garbage till next year's Garbage Free Cities survey.

This survey is launched by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) to make the cities go with a progressive improvement in terms of cleanliness.
